Origins and Creation
Tetris was created in 1984 by Alexey Pajitnov, a Soviet programmer at the Academy of Sciences of the USSR. Inspired by the game “Pentomino,” Pajitnov developed Tetris on an IBM PC, using the programming language “C.” The game’s initial release was limited to a small circle of programmers and enthusiasts.
Early Platforms and Global Spread
Tetris quickly gained popularity among computer users in the USSR. In 1985, it was ported to the Electronika 60, a popular Soviet home computer. The game’s popularity soon spread beyond the Soviet Union, with the first international release occurring in 1986 for the Macintosh platform.
